Without a doubt, Wild Court is one of those examples of exceptional stories being published independently. Wild Court is a British Men in Black meets Jujustu Kaisen with a well-written world and characters.

Samuel presents the story through the point of view of several characters. For many, this can make or break a book. The story needs to maintain a consistent flow while telling a story from multiple different perspectives. Samuel excels at this with a story that contains characters that truly feel like real people and a story that flows naturally.

The only struggle within this story is the slow start. The first 20% of a book is crucial, as it is where many people decide whether or not to continue with the story. Wild Court falls victim to a common struggle within the fantasy genre, which is an exposition-heavy introduction to the world. And while Wild Court is an Urban Fantasy, it still has to set up the circumstances that bring about the fantastical plot in a way that makes sense. The exposition is done very well, and while slow, the details presented are ultimately important to the development of the characters. Regardless of its pace, the first 20% is worth it as it quickly picks up.

If you need to fill up your Kindle, Wild Court is a great option, especially for readers who need a fun foray into the generally overly-serious urban fantasy genre. It’s well-written, unique, and character-driven, an overall well-rounded novel.
